Conditions for household consumption more favourable

In March, conditions for Dutch household consumption were more favourable than in the previous month. New data have become available for six indicators. Four indicators improved, two deteriorated. Household consumption is affected by consumers’ expectations, their personal financial situation and developments on the job market. Although the Radar indicators show a strong correlation with household consumption, improved circumstances are not necessarily translated into increased growth.

The year-on-year incline of owner-occupied dwellings was larger. the year-on-year increase of the share prices was also larger. Consumers were more positive about their financial situation in the next twelve months and less pessimistic about future unemployment. However, the year-on-year growth of the employed labour force was smaller and manufacturers were less optimistic about future employment in their company.
