The following letter was sent to the Black Star News by reader Ertha Rizas who is outraged by the brutal beating, during a Jan 7th traffic stop, of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols, by five police officers from the Memphis Police Department. Nichols died of his injuries on Jan.10.
Where is the outrage on the 5 Black Cops killing a young Black man? This is horrific.
I am a Black woman and believe they should not only be fired but arrested. Why isn’t anyone questioning Black Lives Matter? This is just as bad as the George Floyd beating.
When that video comes out with those Black cops all hell should break out. That was someones father, son, brother this is awful. Where are the Black men now?
We need to focus on our own. We have the mindset of still being on the plantation big time. We love killing our own and saying nothing. When are Black lives going to matter to Black men.
I am hurting and not understanding why my people aren’t as upset also. They said he was beaten like a piñata.
That young man deserves justice. Those cops I say once again need to be arrested. Protesters should go out in that community asking for those cops to be arrested.
What my people thinking right now? What happens when that video comes out for us all to see ?
I often wonder are we still on the plantation in our minds?
Editor’s Note: The five officers involved in the brutal beating death of Tyre Nichols are reportedly: Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Justin Smith.
