Post-Tana Forum: “Improving Regional Response to Political Transitions”

The Post-Tana Regional Multi-Stakeholders Forum will be hosted under the theme “Improving Regional Response to Political Transitions” in Abuja, Nigeria, from 28-29 March 2023, said the Tana Secretariat.

The Institute of Peace and Security studies (IPSS) has been working as the secretary of the Tana Forum over the past ten years.

The 10th edition of the Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa was held in October 2022, in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, with the theme “Managing Security Threats: Building Resilience for the Africa We Want”.

In line with the tradition of the Tana Forum, the Secretariat is mandated to organise a multi-stakeholders forum on selected themes with the aim of forging and deepening conversation on topical issues and outcomes. 

Following  this,  IPSS will host the Post-Tana Regional Multi-Stakeholder Forum on March 28-29, 2023 in Abuja, Nigeria, in collaboration with Humanity United and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). 

The Post-Tana Regional Multi-Stakeholders Forum’s objective is to deepen understanding of the contexts, causes, and dynamics of recent political transitions in Africa. Additionally, it also explores ways to strengthen the regional response to stem the tide, including the role of international assistance in strengthening African governance and political stability.

Participants from the government of Nigeria, ECOWAS, experts, funding & development partners, foreign governments, research organisations, think tanks, academics and  medias  based in Nigeria, Abuja look for attend the event.

A deeper understanding of the context, nature and outcomes of recent political transitions and their impact on African governance, peace and security is expected.

The Forum plans to identify practical steps to further enhance and streamline partnerships between external actors and APSA institutions toward promoting sustainable peace and governance on the continent.

Contribute to ongoing debate and national, regional and continental efforts to better manage conflicts that accompany political transitions, in order to create adequate mechanisms for durable peace and bridge the gap between the academic and policy literature on recent political transitions in Africa.

Further, it is expected to identify practical steps to further enhance and streamline partnerships between external actors and APSA institutions toward promoting sustainable peace and governance on the continent.
