 The Commerce Minister says the budget allocation of US$256,000 to support Liberian businesses is a drop in the ocean and has expressed his disappointment.

Monrovia, April 5, 2024: The Minister of Commerce, Mr. Amin Modad, has vowed to resign if the government of Liberia does not provide him with the necessary support.

 Addressing some critical issues relating to the Act that created Small Business Empowerment on Thursday, 4 April 2024, Modad described a government allocation of US$256,000 to support Liberian businesses as a drop in an ocean.

He said he was disappointed and shocked many lawmakers by his comment when he appeared before them on Thursday.

Modad, a former chairman of the ruling Unity Party (UP), expressed his frustration over the lack of support to push the government’s agenda, particularly in small business empowerment.

 He called for the President and the Legislature to work together to effectively implement policies and programs that benefit the country’s small business sector.

 Minister Modad highlighted the challenges he has faced in enacting meaningful change and improving conditions for small businesses.

He underscored the vital role that small businesses play in driving economic growth and creating employment opportunities, stressing the need for robust support and cooperation from all branches of government.
