A Jewish businessman was murdered in Alexandria, Egypt on Tuesday in a suspected terrorist attack, according to Egyptian and Israeli media reports.

Some outlets claimed the businessman was Israeli, although The Algemeiner was unable to confirm that detail. Other specifics about the incident remain unclear of this writing.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry has said it is aware of the situation and working with the Israeli Embassy in Cairo to handle the case.

Reports indicate the businessman had a Canadian passport and traveled to Egypt several times a year for business.

The Arabic news website Al-Arabyia reported that the victim also held Russian citizenship and was the owner of a company based in Egypt that exports fruits and vegetables.

The Egyptian authorities are reportedly investigating the crime, the perpetrators of which remain unknown.
