Among those eagerly cataloguing potato diversity are the scientists from the Lima-based International Potato Center, or CIP. Under a special 2004 agreement that forbids patenting of any genetic knowledge, the Potato Park communities have shared much of their living library of native landraces with CIP scientists, facilitating experiments to cultivate new hybrid potato varieties.
