ILO to release new report on the economics of forced labour and illegal profits

GENEVA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organization (ILO) will publish the second edition of Profits and Poverty: The economics of forced labour report, which will unveil the latest estimates of illegal profits derived from forced labour. At that time of the first edition in 2014, profits from forced labour were estimated at US$150 billion annually.

The study presents estimates of illegal profits from forced labour at global, regional and sectoral levels. The findings will offer a deeper understanding of the complex economic dynamics involved in forced labour practices.

The report and all associated materials will be under STRICT EMBARGO until 19 March at 9:45 CET (8:45 GMT).

For Geneva-based, UNOG-accredited correspondents, Federico Blanco, Senior Research Officer at the ILO and Zeina Awad, Chief of News and Media, will present the findings during the regular UNIS briefing on Tuesday 19 March at 10:30 Geneva time.

Recognized regional journalists will be able to follow the virtual briefing via YouTube. The link will be sent in advance.

Audio of the briefing will be made available to the UNOG press corps and other registered journalists after the press conference.
