On 19th August, the international community marks World Humanitarian Day. This year’s commemoration, according to the United Nations, centers on demonstrating that “we stand shoulder to shoulder with the communities we serve, no matter who, no matter where, and #NoMatterWhat.”

It is an opportunity to pay tribute to humanitarian workers who often work in perilous conditions and highlight the vital importance of the humanitarian principles that guide their work. This year there will be the #NoMatterWhat digital public awareness and advocacy campaign for people affected by crises and to communicate the growing challenges humanitarians face.

CIP and sister centres in CGIAR have developed tools, innovations, products, solutions and partnerships that have seen root, tuber and banana crops play a key role in humanitarian settings as durable solutions to food insecurity, and livelihoods to communities across Africa, South America and Asia.

We intend to showcase the impact of such interventions, and the lessons learned and challenges encountered during the CIP Humanitarian Week that will start 17th August 2023. Content has been created based on our experience in Cameroon, DRC, Ethiopia, Haiti, Madagascar, Mozambique and Uganda and it will be disseminated on social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, WhatsApp), on CIPotato.org and in national newspapers.
