On Friday, February 17 at 7:30 pm Harlem Stage, in collaboration with Maysles Documentary Center and National Jazz Museum in Harlem, will present an evening of dramatized readings and selected excerpts from Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man at the Harlem Stage Gatehouse.
The excerpts will be read by award-winning actors, including Stephanie Berry, Ty Jones, and Carl Hancock Rux. Throughout the program, a curated selection of recordings from Ralph Ellison’s personal record collection will be played.
Originally published in 1952, Invisible Man powerfully illustrated the social and intellectual hardships faced by Black Americans in the early 1900s. Six Harlem arts organizations including Harlem Stage, National Jazz Museum in Harlem, Maysles Documentary Center, The Schomburg Center for Research and Black Culture, The Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Ralph Ellison Memorial Committee have come together in an unprecedented partnership and celebration of this seminal novel.
