Monrovia, Liberia, July 10, 2024 –The national convention of the Dock Workers Union of Liberia has ended, and new leadership has been elected to govern the union’s affairs for the next three years.

Announcing the election results in Monrovia, George Gibson, Chairman of the five-man election committee of the Dock Workers Union of Liberia, disclosed that two candidates contested all positions except for the presidency.

According to him, it took 15 years to hold a national convention because it has always been postponed for inexplicable reasons.

Other committee members are Macauley Gecleo, Secretary; George Flomo, Daniel Kollie, and Edward Nowoloh.

Those elected during the poll held under the auspices of the Liberia Labor Congress and observed by the Ministry of Labor are Ballah Kpadeh, President; Terry Kpowolo, Vice President for Administration; and Siatta Sarnor, Vice President for Operations.

Others are Abel Darway, Secretary General; Isaac Bonner, Assistant Secretary-General; Annie Tarley, Women’s Chairperson; and Daniel Paliay, Treasurer.

The rest are Chris Boley, Youth Leader; Socratee Diahn, Financial Secretary; and Sinsia Diahn, Director of Workers’ Education.

Shortly after the election results were announced, newly elected President Ballah Kpadeh said he would endeavor to see the union benefit all dock workers throughout the country.

He described the election as historic and called on all dock workers throughout the length and breadth of the country to cooperate with the new leadership.

Kpadeh commended the International Dock Workers Union for its support to dock workers in Liberia over the years and assured them of the dawn of a new day. Editing by Jonathan Browne
