It’s confirmed that Lawyer Ousainou A.N.M Darboe will run for the Presidency of the republic of the Gambia come December 4th 2021.
The arch rival to former President Yahya Jammeh , and the only main opposition to his ruthless regime since 1996 elections , Darboe’s candidature was unanimously approved by the United Democratic Party’s Central committee and endorsed by the Party’s selection committee Chaired by party Deputy Leader and Secretary General Aja Mariam Secka April 6th 2021.
There were three (3) other party members who applied for the candidature, making it a total of four applicants. Reading our their letters during the Central Committee meeting at the Manjai UDP political Bureau , the party’s Senior Administrative Secretary Hon Alhagie S Darboe listed the following as applicants: first was Abdou Darboe of foni, Ousainou ANM Darboe of Pipeline Kanifing Municipality , Ousainou Mboob of Serekunda and Lamin Darboe of Gunjur in Kombo South district.
Members of the Central Committee took turns to speak on the candidate. First to take the floor was Aja Mriama Secka who took the member through history. She recounts the several ambushes her party went through during the past 26 years under Jammeh; but Darboe never gave up. She described Darboe as a leader who is humble and above all honest and has the Gambia at heart. She thanks the other three applicants for showing their interest but urge them to allow Darboe this time around.
Sambou Kanteh formerly of the Gambia people’s Party (GPP) and founding father of the UDP who currently served in the elders committee of the party told the committee that back in 1996 when they were looking for a candidate, many doors were knocked but it was only Ousainou who opened his door. He recalled when they almost fail to get one, late Sainey Darboe told them that he has one person in mind and that by the fall of the next day the UDP will have a candidate and that was Ousainou Darboe. He, like the previous speakers commended the other three candidates for their participation but urged them to allow Darboe run this time.
Several others took the floor including Honorable Sulayman Saho, Bakary Njie, Chairman Landing Sanneh, Momodou LK Sanneh, Amadou Sanneh, Adama J allow and several others all of who give their blessings to Lawyer Darboe’s candidature.
