UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a position as Assistant Protection Officer (SGBV) within the Sexual and Gender-based Violence Unit, Division of International Protection, in the Geneva Headquarters in Switzerland.

The SGBV team at headquarters provides operational field support to operations. It works closely with regional bureaus and partners. Core objectives include provision of prompt technical support on SGBV prevention, risk mitigation and response. Within that, it has a number of priority areas of work one of which includes capacity development of staff and reporting.
The incumbent will work in the SGBV Unit under the direct supervision of the Senior Advisor (SGBV). The incumbent will work closely with the other colleagues in the SGBV unit and support their work – the Senior Protection Project Officer responsible for the daily management of the Safe from the Start project and the Senior Project Monitoring and RBM Officer monitoring, as well with colleagues working on other areas such as the Gender-based Violence Information Management System (GBVIMS), SGBV Mainstreaming and Multi-Sectoral projects.
The incumbent will receive daily coaching and regular capacity building sessions. Moreover, there are regular meetings both at Unit level and Division level. The incumbent will agree with the supervisor on the annual objectives, followed by a mid-term review and final performance appraisal.
a. (50%) This role will assist the SGBV team in supporting the preparation and delivering of capacity-building workshops and advocacy events in 2019
b. (30%) In correspondence with existing reporting requirements this role will support with planning, monitoring, and reporting of SGBV prevention, mitigation and response activities
c. (20%) Support UNHCR to strengthen the cooperation among SGBV, protection and other UNHCR staff and partners through coherent communication and collaborative platforms
d. (10%) Support UNHCR’s institutional efforts to increase knowledge, awareness, and technical capacity on SGBV prevention and response
Duties and responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Senior Advisor (SGBV), the responsibilities are:
Support the preparation and delivering of capacity-building workshops and advocacy events:
· Prepare and implement the organization of the SGBV Global Workshop that will take place in Geneva (Q4). The SGBV Global Workshop will bring together UNHCR protection staff working on addressing SGBV from country operations and regional offices to strengthen knowledge and operationalization of policy. The incumbent will be in charge of the logistical and administrative preparations of such workshop, including post-event reporting and content support.
· Support the organization of SGBV and Safe from the Start retreats, SGBV Training of Trainers, protection workshops and MHPSS learning opportunities.
· Support the organisation of the annual 16 Days of Activism campaign, as well as other events and SGBV-related campaigns as needed
· Assist with the organization of other meetings and events.
Support with planning, monitoring, and reporting of SGBV prevention and response activities:
· Drafting internal and external reports, briefing notes as well as interagency reports on UNHCR SGBV prevention and response activities, programmes and results. Reporting will include the Global Strategic Priorities (GSP), Global Report, SG report on sexual violence, SG program performance report, the Global Appeal, DIP Performance and Year End reports, SGBV Annual Update Report, Executive Committee briefings, and HC and DHC statements.
· Analyse SGBV data and protection reports to support various monitoring and reporting activities.
· Analyse narrative and quantitative data as part of an annual review of SGBV-related Global Strategic Priorities (GSP).
· Support implementation of the information management system on SGBV including reporting and GBVIMS roll-out where applicable.
Strengthen the cooperation among SGBV, protection and other UNHCR staff and partners through a coherent communication strategy and collaborative platforms:
· Contribute to the development of UNHCR’s web content on SGBV and the dissemination of the updated IASC guidelines among UNHCR and partner staff
· Manage and regularly update the SGBV Intranet page to maintain an up-to-date platform with relevant content for the colleagues in the field.
· Manage the SGBV mailbox and disseminate information to field colleagues.
· Review and update the interactive SGBV toolkit, SGBV SharePoint and the archiving platforms of E-Safe and L Drive.
Support institutional efforts to increase knowledge, awareness, and technical capacity on SGBV prevention and response:
· Support the roll-out of UNHCR’s SGBV Policy, contributing to the preparations for the policy package, communication plans and NGO consultations.
· Support interagency collaboration on SGBV, including the Call to Action, GBV Area of Responsibility
Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required
University Degree in International Law, Human Rights, International Development, International Relations, Anthropology, Political or Social Science, with authoritative knowledge of issues relating to migration, refugee women, gender, humanitarian and development issues or SGBV prevention.
Preferably 1 to 2 years of job experience relevant to the function.
Experience in SGBV, gender analysis and protection work experience in the humanitarian sector is desirable. Previous experience working with UNHCR will be considered a strong asset.

· Fluency in English and Spanish is essential, working knowledge of French is preferred.
The successful candidate will be based with the team in the Geneva Headquarters, Switzerland.
The individual contractor contract is from 16 May 2019 Until 31 December 2019. It is a full-time role i.e. 40 hours per week. Only local candidates residing in Geneva and nearby France will be considered.
